Aging and Youth Committee 04/21/10

The Senate Aging and Youth Committee met on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, and reported out the following bill as amended:

SB 699 - The legislation creates the Adult Protective Services Act.  Under this act, adults who lack the capacity to protect themselves and are at imminent risk of abuse, neglect, exploitation or abandonment will have access to services necessary to protect their health, safety and welfare.  An amendment was offered which states that the Department of Public Welfare shall work with the Department of Aging to provide coordination with the Older Adults Protective Services System and to ensure that adults who are subject of a protective services report at the time of their 60th birthday have continuity in the delivery of their services.  


 

Aging and Youth Committee 04/13/10

The Senate Aging and Youth Committee met on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, and reported out the following resolution as committed:

 

SR 288:  This resolution designates April 16, 2010 as Healthcare Decisions Day” in Pennsylvania to encourage the use of advance health care directives.  A vote of 11-0 was recorded.


 

Aging and Youth Committee 06/02/09

The Senate Aging and Youth Committee met on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, and unanimously reported out the following bill as amended:

 

SB 651 - The legislation amends the Older Adults Protective services Act by making it so that the conviction of any offense involving serious physical harm on care dependent individuals may legitimately warrant a lifetime ban on employment in certain facilities.  The misuse of property or irresponsible behavior may legitimately warrant a ban on employment as well.  The bill also allows for an individual who would otherwise be precluded from employment by a facility to petition for a certificate of employability provided that at least ten years have passed since the individual’s conviction of any offense.  Amendment A01261 was offered which offered clarifying language.
