HARRISBURG, April 30 –
The state Senate this week unanimously
passed a resolution, sponsored by state Sen.
Christine M. Tartaglione, to set aside May
as a month to recognize senior citizens and
their continuing contribution to society.
“With our increasing life spans,
we face opportunities and challenges that
require us to think differently about health
care and long-term care,” Tartaglione said.
“We also must reexamine our current systems
to adequately plan for and address the needs
of current and future generations.”
Tartaglione has sponsored
similar resolutions in previous years. This
year the theme is “Older Americans: Working
Together for Strong, Healthy and Supportive
Communities.”
“I am urging all residents of this
Commonwealth to honor senior citizens and
persons who care for them during the month
of May and throughout the year and to
promote and participate in activities that
help older Americans make choices for a
healthy and rewarding future,” Tartaglione
said.
Tartaglione hosts an annual Senior Expo in
her district bringing together numerous
service providers to help seniors make
important decisions about issues ranging
from long-term care to health insurance.
She also hosts flu shot clinics at her
district office for seniors who find it
difficult and expensive to locate the
vaccine at other medical facilities. |
