TARTAGLIONE APPLAUDS FRANKFORD VOLUNTEERS

Tartaglione

PHILADELPHIA, May 4 - Sen. Christine M. Tartaglione greeted dozens of volunteers who turned out Saturday for a community work project to spruce up a local boys and girls club.

“It makes me confident in the future of our neighborhoods to see young people taking the time to contribute to the betterment of their community,” Tartaglione said. “There are no problems that we can’t solve if everyone pitches in.”

City Year, a non-profit organization that unites a diverse group of young people for a year of full-time community service and leadership development, organized the event.

City Year is partnered with the Frankford High School Student Board to paint four murals, two staircases, two bathrooms, and a classroom inside the Frankford Boys and Girls Club on Kinsey St. Organizers are hoping that the event will create a collective memory among residents in Frankford and build bridges between area schools and the community.

“As grateful as I am for the work that these volunteers have done, I’m even more grateful for the example they have set,” Tartaglione said. “A role model does not have to be someone in the different generation.  Sometimes a role model is right in your own classroom.”
