TARTAGLIONE COMMEMORATES ‘WEAR RED’ DAY IN
PENNSYLVANIA
|

Tartaglione |
PHILADELPHIA,
February 2 –
State Sen. Christine M. Tartaglione joined
colleagues and representatives of the
American Heart Association today to
commemorate American Heart Month and
National Wear Red for Women Day.
Tartaglione presented the Heart
Association’s Jen Ebersole with a Senate
Resolution recognizing the campaign to
encourage women to become educated on the
risks associated with heart disease.
"Every day on the news we hear about the
great debate over health care reform,"
Tartaglione said. "Every citizen can enact
his or her own health care reform. That is
why I am honored to join with the American
Heart Association, as well as my colleagues
from both sides of the aisle in supporting
the goals of the National Wear Red Day in
Pennsylvania."
Research has shown that through their own
decisions, or the decisions of health care
workers, women are far more likely than men
to miss or ignore the signs of heart attack,
leading to deadly consequences.
Tartaglione stated that it is critically
important to remember that the most
inexpensive and important way to improve the
health of citizens and reduce the financial
burden on families is through education of
individuals. By taking steps to improve
their heart health, women can not only save
our health-care system hundreds of billions
of dollars, but they can also save their
mothers, daughters, sisters and friends.
Tartaglione was joined by Sens. LeAnna
Washington, Vincent Hughes, Michael O'Pake
and other members of the legislature, as
well as Janice Kopelman -- Deputy Secretary
for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention,
PA Department of Health.
