WASHINGTON URGES AREA TO REACH OUT TO KATRINA VICTIMS

          HARRISBURG, September 1 – Sen. LeAnna M. Washinton (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery) today urged citizens to reach out to those who were affected by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

          “It is time for us to show our giving spirit and do whatever we can to help those who have lost loved ones, property and their way of life,” Washington said.

          The Federal Emergency Management Agency has released a list of organizations accepting donations and volunteers to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

          Washington added the American Red Cross can be reached at (800) HELP NOW, or (800) 257-7575 for Spanish speakers. Other organizations recommended are Operation Blessing – (800) 436-6348 – and America’s Second Harvest – (800) 344-8070.
