WASHINGTON INVITES COMMUNITIES TO ANNUAL WADSWORTH DAY

Washington

HARRISBURG, August 12 – State Senator LeAnna M. Washington (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery) is encouraging residents to take part in the tenth annual Wadsworth Day.

“This year’s theme, Bridging the Gap – Families and Communities is a reminder of how everyone comes together to celebrate for the same reasons, to unite as friends and neighbors to share in the festive atmosphere that has brought the community together for the past ten years,” Washington said.

The festival, sponsored by Washington and Community Outreach 200, takes place on Saturday, September 17, 2005, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.  The activities will be located in the 1500 and 1600 blocks of Wadsworth Avenue, between Cheltenham and Michener Avenues.  The event is free to the public.  The rain date will be September 18th.

The event will include an array of activities, including free health screenings and community service awards, children’s rides, food vendors, entertainment and free refreshments.  The PennDOT Mobile will also be there to assist constituents with state transportation and other transportation issues.  Patty Jackson of WDAS-FM will provide live coverage.

“I am looking forward to having another successful, fun filled day,” Washington said.  “Let’s continue this tradition for many years to come.”

Washington reminds residents to refrain from bringing pets to the event, unless they are service animals, such as seeing-eye dogs.  Bikes and motorbikes are also not permitted within the festival.

“It is important that we keep this event safe for all participants,” Washington said.  “This is the best way to reduce congestion and keep the festival accident free.”

Both private and non-profit vendors are invited to participate.  Anyone interested in being a vendor for this event must submit a completed application along with the application fee by Friday, September 9, 2005.  Food vendors are reminded to include a copy of their food-vending license with their application.  Application fees paid after September 9th must be made in cash.
