WASHINGTON TO HOST SENIORS CRIME PREVENTION UNIVERSITY PROGRAM

Washington

PHILADELPHIA, March 28 – State Sen. LeAnna M. Washington (D-Phila/Montgomery) announced today that she is hosting a special seminar for senior residents in her district on protecting themselves from identity theft and other illegal scams.

“There are serious crimes being perpetrated against many of our senior citizens each day,” Washington said.  “This unique and informative crime prevention program will provide valuable information for seniors and their families about fraud prevention, identity theft and other tips to avoid becoming a victim of these crimes.”

“Senior citizens are particularly vulnerable to identity theft, which causes people to have considerable financial loss, along with a great deal of frustration as they try to repair the damage to their credit status and lives.”

The event will take place on Friday, April 7, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Brownstone at Sunrise, 1801 Susquehanna Road, Abington, PA.

The program will be presented by the staff from the Attorney General’s Public Protection Division’s Community Liaison Team.  Following the presentation, there will be time for discussion and questions and answers about the latest tricks thieves are using to deceive consumers.

           Light refreshments will be served.

As space is limited, Senator Washington urges all who want to attend to make a reservation for the seminar by calling the Montgomery County District Office at 215-517-1434 by Wednesday, April 5, 2006.
