HARRISBURG, August 8 – State Senator LeAnna M. Washington (D-Phila. /Montgomery) today announced that Montgomery County will receive a grant of $47,272 from the Department of Public Welfare (DPW).

The grant will be used to help the county improve services for children to protect their health and well-being.

“This is an excellent opportunity to support the county’s efforts in ensuring the safety of our children,” Washington said.  “These funds will go a long way in strengthening and supporting our social service network.”

Washington said the grants, awarded under DPW’s Integrated Children’s Services Planning process, will assist counties in the areas of child abuse and neglect prevention; permanency planning; early intervention; mental retardation; child care and behavioral health.

She added that counties can utilize the funds to invest in infrastructure activities, such as cross-system training, quality assurance measurement, activity consultations and coordination, data collection and management, and related costs.
