WASHINGTON PRESENTS GRANT TO LUTHERAN THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY

Washington

HARRISBURG, September 13 – State Senator LeAnna M. Washington (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery) today presented a state grant of $500,000 to the President of the Lutheran Theological Seminary to support the development of the new Brossman Learning Center.

“The Lutheran Theological Seminary is undergoing a renaissance in economic and cultural redevelopment,” Washington said as she presented the mock check to Rev. Dr. Philip Krey.  “The new Brossman Learning Center will serve as an important resource to this entire region with the museum and as a repository for archives.”

President Krey said he is “grateful” to Senator Washington for the grant to “help make possible a stunning resource for conferences, public meetings, and heritage tourism, that allows people to see the origins of the Lutheran Church in America, the Episcopal Church, and artifacts from the Swedish Colony.

The treasures housed here will be of great interest to the 600,000 Lutherans in Pennsylvania and the additional 600,00 Lutherans in the region who will be able to visit this new facility,” Krey said.

Washington added that she is proud to be a part of the economic development and job growth occurring in Northwest Philadelphia.

The Lutheran Archives Center at Philadelphia is located on the campus of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, an historic 15-acre tract of land bordered by Germantown Avenue, Gowen Avenue, Boyer Street and Mt. Airy Avenue.
