PHILADELPHIA, December 14 – State Senator LeAnna M. Washington (D-Phila. /Montgomery) is helping to make the holidays a little brighter for children and families at the Stenton Family Shelter for Women and Children.

Washington has collected toys and gifts for the children and families at the shelter and will give out the presents at a holiday party on Saturday, December 16, at the Cheltenham Mall.

“The holiday season is a time of generous giving and sharing,” Washington said. “I am happy to be a small part of the giving at this shelter.”

Elder Rob Harrison, Director of Stenton Shelter, said he is grateful to Washington, not only for the gifts for the children, but also for the time she has given to residents of the shelter.

“Senator Washington not only offers her assistance with a project such as this, but she also takes time to visit the residents several times throughout the year,” Elder Harrison said. “She takes time with the children and the families and they have an opportunity to talk with her.”

Washington was also instrumental in having a 52-inch TV/DVD donated to the shelter through the generosity of the Cheltenham Home Depot.

“The children are already benefiting from the donation of the TV/DVD,” Elder Harrison said. “Whenever we have a need, Senator Washington has been there to help us out. She is a hands-on person.

“The children and the families know that she really cares about them and that is so needed this time of year.”
