WASHINGTON NAMED DEMOCRATIC CHAIR OF AGING AND YOUTH COMMITTEE

          HARRISBURG, January 22 – State Sen. LeAnna M. Washington (D-Phila. /Montgomery) has been named the Democratic chair of the Senate Aging and Youth Committee.

          This is Washington’s second time chairing this committee.

           “It is an honor to once again chair such a significant committee,” Washington said.  “As always, the needs of Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable citizens – children and seniors – will be a top priority for me.  I am anxious to work with my colleagues on issues facing these citizens and all Pennsylvanians.”

          Washington’s goals as Democratic chair include taking a look at Governor Rendell’s new “Prescription for Pennsylvania” plan aimed at providing quality healthcare at a low price to all Pennsylvanians. 

          Other issues facing this committee include issues on aging, such as prescription drug coverage and social security and child issues, such as child abuse and neglect prevention and other child services.

          Washington will also serve on the Communications & Technology, Transportation, and Veterans’ Affairs & Emergency Preparedness committees.

          “I am prepared to handle a wide range of issues in my diverse committee assignments,” Washington said.  “These different committee assignments each offer their own unique challenges that will allow me to focus on improving a wide range of services for my constituents in Philadelphia and Montgomery counties.
