WASHINGTON: FREE APPLICATION FOR STUDENT AID NOW AVAILABLE

Washington

PHILADELPHIA, January 22 – State Senator LeAnna M. Washington (D-Phila./Montgomery) today announced that the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) is available at her district offices.

“I am urging all area college age students and their families to visit my district office and pick up a FAFSA form,” Washington said.  “This form is an important first step in applying for student aid.”

The form is the first step in determining a student’s eligibility for federal, state and collegiate level student aid, including the Pennsylvania State Grant.

Washington added that by filling the form out now parents and students can avoid missing any important student aid deadlines.  The form is available at her Wadsworth District Office at 1555-A Wadsworth Avenue and the Roslyn District Office at 1168 Easton Road.

Students can also access the form through their school counselors, postsecondary schools and the U.S. Department of Education (by calling 800-4-FED-AID). Families may also complete and submit the FAFSA online at www.EducationPlanner.org, or at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Washington added that a free tutorial to help families better understand and complete the FAFSA is available at www.EducationPlanner.org. Workshops to assist families in completing the FAFSA will be held throughout Pennsylvania from January through March. PHEAA’s website, www.PHEAA.org, lists these workshops.

“With college tuition on the rise, this valuable form will relieve the financial burden many families face when a child goes to college,” Washington said.  “I encourage you to apply today.”
