WASHINGTON: GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR INDIVIDUALS LIVING WITH AUTISM

          HARRISBURG, April 10– State Sen. LeAnna M. Washington (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery) today encouraged families of loved ones living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to apply for one-time grants from the state to help them access services and programs.

          “Families caring for loved ones with autism face many challenges,” Washington said.  “These grants can assist families bridge some of the gaps in service they may need.”

          Applications for the grants must be completed and submitted to the Department of Public Welfare’s Bureau of Autism Services by April 27, 2007. 

          Washington added that families may be eligible for grants of up to $500 which can be used for support and activities, including child care, summer camp/recreation programs, or home modifications.

          To be eligible, individuals or families must be U.S. citizens, as well as a resident of Pennsylvania and not currently receiving any other family support services, including waiver-funded services, Family-Driven Support Services, services funded under Individual Support Plans or county-based funds from MH/MR or other similar services or funding.

          The program is only offered once and can be used only for activities/supports, which occur between April 1, 2007, and August 31, 2007.
