WASHINGTON SPEAKS AT AARP LOBBY DAY

Washington

HARRISBURG, June 5 State Sen. LeAnna M. Washington (D-Philadelphia/Mont.) joined more than 1500 members of the AARP (American Association of Retired People) as they rallied on the Capitol grounds in support of their priority issues.

“I am so glad to join you here today to bring your issues – such as the budget – to the attention of the state legislature,” Washington said, speaking on the Irvis Building lawn.  “As many of you know, I have been working closely with the AARP Pennsylvania as the minority chair of the Senate Aging and Youth Committee.

“Over the past year, working with your leaders, we were able to help bring your issues to the attention of our legislative leaders.”

Members of the AARP rallied for the passage of legislation that defines and regulates assisted living and their concern about diverting Lottery revenues away from existing Lottery-funded programs that benefit older Pennsylvanians.

Washington said that she hears the needs of the senior population loud and clear and will continue to work with her colleagues in the legislature to advance the needs of Pennsylvania’s seniors.

“I want you all to know that you have strong advocates in the Pennsylvania Senate,” Washington said.
