WASHINGTON REAPPOINTED TO COUNCIL ON LONG-TERM CARE

Washington

HARRISBURG, June 25 – State Sen. LeAnna Washington (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery) has been reappointed by the Democratic Leader of the to the Senate to serve on the Intra-Governmental Council on Long-Term Care.

The council examines long term care issues in Pennsylvania, including the responsibilities and programs of the various agencies of state government. It was created by an Executive Order of the Governor in 1988.

“As a member of the council, I work to ensure that older Pennsylvanians and their families have access to quality long-term care options,” Washington said. “Our older citizens greatly contributed to their communities and this state. They deserve the best options for care, and I will continue to serve their needs with this re-appointment.”

Some of the council’s goals include developing a framework for a system of long term care services at the state and local level; seeking both short and long range solutions to the problem of how to finance long term care; and making recommendations on regulations, licensure and any other responsibilities relating to personal care homes.

The senator will serve on the Intra-Governmental Council on Long-Term Care until 2009. She was first appointed to the position in 2005.
