WASHINGTON LAUDS PASSAGE OF ASSISTED LIVING CARE LEGISLATION

Washington

HARRISBURG, July 14 – The Senate unanimously passed legislation that provides new rules for assisted living facilities, according to state Sen. LeAnna Washington (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery).

“This is extremely important legislation that raises the standards of quality of care for assisted living facilities,” Washington said. “I am thrilled that this measure received overwhelming support in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.”

Senate Bill 704 requires that a state plan be put in place for regulation and licensing of assisted living residencies. It also requires unannounced on-site visits.

“This is a step in the right direction toward improving comprehensive care for older Pennsylvanians and supporting clients being able to age in place.

“This type of legislation was developed over a decade, and I thank my colleagues for supporting this bi-partisan effort,” Washington said.

The bill now heads to the governor’s desk.
