WASHINGTON OFFERS FREE SMOKE DETECTORS AT HER PHILA. OFFICE

Washington

PHILADELPHIA, July 16 - State Sen. LeAnna Washington (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery) has smoke detectors that she will provide for free to her constituents in the 4th Senatorial district at her Philadelphia district office.

“Smoke detectors are lifesaving devices, so it’s crucial that families have them in their homes,” Washington said. “I urge families in my district who don’t have a smoke alarm to come to my office and pick one up.”

One smoke detector per family will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at her office, located at 1555-A Wadsworth Ave. in Philadelphia, until there are no detectors left.

Every year in Philadelphia, dozens of people die in fires. Many of the deaths were in buildings that did not have smoke detectors, or the alarms had no batteries.

“Too often, we hear tragic news stories about people who lost their lives in a fire because their home didn’t have an alarm,” Washington said. “A smoke detector is an essential warning system that not only can save a house, but also save the lives of those who live in it.

“I’m glad to be able to provide alarms to my constituents, and I hope families take advantage of this opportunity,” she said.
