WASHINGTON NAMED TO SPECIAL ENERGY SESSION COMMITTEE

Washington

HARRISBURG, October 5 – State Sen. LeAnna Washington (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery) has been named to the 15-member state Senate Committee on Energy Policies for the Special Session on Energy.

“I’m proud to be selected to this committee, which will play a crucial role in shaping Pennsylvania’s laws on energy independence and environmental improvements,” Washington said. “With a solid energy policy, we can improve our lives and the environment around us, so I look forward to working with the committee during the special session.”

The Special Session on Energy will focus on Gov. Ed Rendell’s Energy Independence Strategy, which takes numerous steps to cut energy costs for consumers while expanding the state’s creation and use of alternative clean energy.

Washington said the governor’s plan would save Pennsylvanians billions of dollars and reduce our reliance on foreign fuels, making Pennsylvania a leading state in the effort to be energy independent.

State lawmakers are also proposing strategies and alternatives to the governor’s plan.

The committee will review, discuss and debate all legislative proposals for the Special Session on Energy and make decisions on what bills reach the full Senate for a vote.

“We must balance energy independence and conservation with a sound economic plan that benefits all Pennsylvanians,” Washington said. “As a member of this committee, I will keep in mind the best interests of the state as well while representing my constituents in Philadelphia and Montgomery counties.”
