WASHINGTON RECEIVES PERMANENCY ADVOCATE OF THE YEAR AWARD

Washington

HARRISBURG, May 21 - The Three Rivers Adoption Council and the Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association recently presented state Sen. LeAnna Washington (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery) with a “Permanency Advocate of the Year Award.”

The award honored Washington for her passion and work in helping foster children find a permanent family in which to thrive.

“I am humbled by this great honor,” Washington said.  “I have always been, and will always be a fighter for children -- especially foster children who all deserve a loving home to live in.”

"Senator Washington's tenacity and commitment to children makes her an exceptional choice for this award,” Three Rivers Adoption Center Executive Director Jacqueline Wilson said.  “She has worked so hard to keep children safe and we appreciate her efforts."

Washington is currently sponsoring two bills (SB 1245 and SB 1246) that would allow children to stay in foster care until they are 21, instead of age 18.

“While conditions in foster care have certainly improved over the years, more must be done,” Washington said.  “I will continue to fight so that no children age out of the foster care system and become homeless and live on the streets.”
