IFHO DONATES TO DINNIMAN’S FOOD DRIVE

WEST CHESTER, January 26 State Senator Andy Dinniman recently thanked the International Food and Health Organization (IFHO) for its generous donation of foodstuffs and canned goods to local food banks.

“It’s great to see that an organization that is primarily dedicated to helping orphans in Kenya has not forgotten its neighbors in these difficult economic times,” Dinniman said. “I want to thank the International Food and Health Organization and its members for their generous donation.”

IFHO was founded in 2004 by a group of Chester County residents, many of them Kenyan-born, who were concerned by the widespread poverty, high prevalence of HIV/AIDS and frequent droughts that had made orphans of tens of thousands of Kenyan children.

The organization is committed to helping Kenyans improve their lives by working with them to provide the tools and skills they need to boost food production and create jobs. In addition, the group works to ensure that those suffering from hunger and HIV/AIDS have access to food, medical care, sanitary conditions and opportunities to live productive lives without depending on external aid.

Dinniman first became involved with IFHO through West Chester University where several of its members were students in his Global Perspectives class.

When Dinniman launched a year-round food drive at his West Chester District Office, IFHO answered the call with several boxes of foodstuffs, canned goods and personal hygiene products.

Dinniman encouraged others to follow the organization’s lead.

“Hunger is not a seasonable problem. Our local food cupboards face a growing demand and are in need of donations all year long,” Dinniman said.

Canned goods and gift cards to local supermarkets are collected on a regular basis at Dinniman’s West Chester District Office, located at historic One North Church Street (the corner of Church and Market Streets) in downtown West Chester. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. All donations will go to the West Chester Food Cupboard and the Salvation Army of West Chester. Please be sure to check expiration dates on food items.
