DINNIMAN: TIME TO APPLY FOR
COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID

WEST CHESTER,
January 27
–
State Senator Andy Dinniman announced the
beginning of the financial aid application
season for the 2010-11 academic year.
“In today’s economic environment, it is more
important than ever for families to apply
for student aid to help with the costs of
higher education,” Dinniman said. “I urge
prospective students and their parents to
contact my office for information about
available educational financing options and
to be sure to fill out a Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as
possible.”
The FAFSA determines eligibility for federal
grants, the need-based Pennsylvania State
Grant, many scholarships, reduced-cost
federal student loans and work-study
programs.
Applications are available at Senator
Dinniman’s West Chester District Office, but
individuals are encouraged to apply online
at
www.PHEAA.org/FAFSA or
www.fafsa.ed.gov
for expedited processing. To complete the
application, applicants will need
information found on their 2009 tax returns.
The deadline for state aid is May 1, 2010,
but students should contact the schools they
are interested in attending because many
have earlier financial aid deadlines.
Returning students who have previously
submitted a FAFSA will be notified by the
federal government by e-mail or post mail
when their 2010-11 Renewal Application is
available.
“I strongly recommend that you apply early
since some aid is available on a first-come,
first-served basis,” Dinniman said.
