PHILADELPHIA, January 12 - Senator Vincent Hughes (D-Phila.) will honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and work by joining more than 100 volunteers from City Year Greater Philadelphia in a major rehabilitation service project at the Cathedral of Praise Community Church located at 6400 Haverford Ave., beginning at 9:30 am on Monday, January 15, 2007.

Armed with hammers, nails, and drills, Hughes will participate in a broad range of projects -- from the removal and replacement of drywall to painting and cleaning projects throughout the 35,000 square foot multi-building complex.

Later that afternoon, beginning at 12:30 p.m., he will host his annual Night Club at Noon Luncheon for 200 senior citizens at the Zanzibar Blue Restaurant, Broad & Walnut Streets.  For the past several years, seniors have converged at the popular venue to enjoy good food, company and entertainment.  It is a time when they pause to reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – his impact on their lives personally as well as the community-at-large.
