HUGHES NAMED DEM. CHAIR OF PUBLIC HEALTH & WELFARE COMMITTEE

          HARRISBURG, January 19 – Sen. Vincent Hughes (D-Phila.) has been named Democratic chair of the Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee.

          “I am honored to be entrusted with a leadership role in this very important committee,” Hughes said.  “I am dedicated to the issues this committee is responsible for, including the Governor’s Prescription for Pennsylvania plan.  I look forward with great enthusiasm to working with my colleagues on the legislation included in this plan.”

          The Senate Health and Welfare Committee reviews and discusses legislative initiatives regarding public health, welfare, social services, the blind and disabled, substance abuse, mental health, and institutions related to these issues.

          “There are some very critical issues facing this committee this session and I am anxious to get to work,” Hughes said.

          Hughes’ other committee appointments include Appropriations and Education.

          “Both of these committees present challenging issues important to the well being of this district and the entire state,” Hughes said.  “I am dedicated to working on the issues most important to the people of Pennsylvania.”
