Hughes & Fattah Unveil Tip Line With $1,000 Reward for Illegal Guns

PHILADELPHIA, February 2 – Against the backdrop of escalating violence in the city, State Sen. Vincent Hughes (D-Phila.), U.S. Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), and the Citizens Crime Commission of the Delaware Valley (CCCDV) today announced “Gun Safe Philadelphia” a new tip line that will pay within 72 hours, a $1,000 reward to any citizen whose information leads to police seizure of illegal guns and the arrest of their possessors.

“Like many urban communities across the country, the City of Philadelphia is grappling with pervasive issues related to escalating violence and crime,” Hughes said.  “Because the problem affects all of us, it is incumbent upon each of us to actively engage strategies and solutions that address this crisis head on from multiple vantage points.”

The CCCDV will administer the program and operate the hotline.  With the launch of Gun-Safe Philadelphia, the CCCDV’s 215-546-TIPS line will also serve as an important repository of information related to illegal firearms and criminal activity.

Targeted outreach to the City’s civic, cultural and business communities also will be undertaken to help grow the program’s initial $100,000 reward pool.
