Hughes’ Conference Promotes the ABCs of Academic Achievement

            PHILADELPHIA, October 26 – Helping students succeed in school is the focus of State Senator Vincent Hughes’ (D-Phila), upcoming What’s In Your Backpack: Academic Success Program.  The event, which will be held on Saturday, November 10, from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the High School of the Future, 4021 Parkside Ave., will showcase tools, strategies and resources that help students, grades K-12, parents and guardians get the most out of the education process.

            The conference will include a resource fair comprised of nearly 40 organizations and institutions as well as more than 15 workshops, led by leading experts in a variety of fields.  Student workshops will focus on areas such as self-esteem, skills development, technology, and peer pressure.  Special workshops for parents will explore effective communication, strong parent/school partnerships and the role of advocacy in education.
