HUGHES MAKES SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE

            HARRISBURG, April 30 – Applications for Senator Vincent Hughes’(D-Philadelphia)Summer Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) will be distributed on Monday, May 5, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at his district office, 4601 Market Street, 1^st fl., Philadelphia.

YEI, a new job training and internship program launched in partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition, is designed to provide meaningful employment experiences for youth.

YEI is comprised of two components:

Phase I, which runs from May 12, 2008 – August 29, 2008, provides paid internships for local college students in the areas of information technology, social science, event planning, and political science.  In addition to career exposure, participants will learn leadership development skills, job training, career planning, and organizational team building.

Phase II, which runs from July 7, 2008 – August 29, 2008, involves paid part-time summer employment for youth ages 16 -21 at various worksites throughout the 7^th Senatorial District.  A key component of Phase II focuses on enrichment training and life skills development in the areas of education, finances, and social interaction.
