            HARRISBURG, January 12 - The state Senate Democratic Policy Committee being held in Pittsburgh this morning (Tuesday) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on tax exempt properties will be streamed live at www.pasenate.com

The committee will discuss legislation (SB 1175 and HB 2191) that would allow municipalities to continue relying on existing voluntary agreements with tax exempt organizations. However, the legislation also gives them the option of imposing a fee based on total square footage of properties, and/or establishing a limited real estate tax for properties owned by charitable institutions.

Expected to testify are: Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl; Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato; Diana Bucco, president of the Forbes Funds; John Harmon, chairman of the Forbes Funds Board of Directors; Pittsburgh Controller Michael Lamb; Dr. Jared Cohon, president of Carnegie Mellon University; Dr. William Carl, president of the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary; City of Washington Mayor L. Anthony Spossey; and Allegheny County Council President Richard Fitzgerald.
