PHILADELPHIA, March 1 – State Sen. Shirley M. Kitchen will be hosting personal finance seminars on four upcoming Saturdays to educate constituents about the benefits of maintaining good credit and offer useful information about judgments, bankruptcy, lending, credit scores, and more.

“Financial education is not part of a typical school’s curriculum, which results in most people getting their information from friends and relatives,” said Kitchen (D-Philadelphia). “These seminars are designed to put people in touch with personal finance experts who can provide them with the facts.”

The seminars will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and they are scheduled as follows:

  • March 11 - John Hartranft School, 720 W. Cumberland Street

  • March 18 - Olney High School, 100 W. Duncannon Avenue

  • March 25 - Zion Baptist Church Annex, Broad and Venango Streets

  • April 1 - Berean Institute, 1901 W. Girard Avenue.

Representatives from several banks, as well as the state Department of Banking and Community Legal Services, will deliver short presentations on such topics as “How do I read my credit report?” and “The new bankruptcy law: What I need to know to protect my debts.” Seminar attendees will have the opportunity to participate in discussion groups and ask questions one-on-one.

Individuals interested in attending one of these financial information seminars may contact Kitchen’s District Office at (215) 227-6161, ext. 22.
