HARRISBURG, July 2 – State Sen. Shirley M. Kitchen (D-Philadelphia) released the following statement concerning passage of the 2006-2007 state budget:

“This budget is an investment in our children, seniors, and new business that will pay off for years to come. Pennsylvania’s libraries will receive the highest level of state funding in history.

“Philadelphia’s schools will also be receiving extra state dollars to continue improving student performance. It is important that the state recognized this and is providing additional funding to meet the challenges in our school system.

“This budget includes no tax increases and even incorporates several tax cuts that will particularly help new businesses. In short, this budget is a great achievement that balances fiscal responsibility with caring for the people of Pennsylvania.”
