PHILADELPHIA, November 20: Residents can
gain a basic understanding of the best and
most cost-effective ways to reduce their
energy usage at an upcoming Energy
Conservation Workshop sponsored by state
Sen. Shirley Kitchen.
“With colder temperatures on the way, now is
the time to take steps to reduce your
upcoming winter energy bills,” said Kitchen.
“This workshop will provide folks with easy
yet essential tips to keep their utility
costs down.”
The Energy Conservation Workshop will take
place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday,
Nov. 29 at Lawncrest Recreation Center, 6000
Rising Sun Ave. The event is free and open
to everyone.
Attendees will learn how to seal their home
through tips on using plastic storm windows,
weather stripping and V-seal. Learn how to
use a caulk gun and how to install foam
insulation, rope caulk and automatic clock
thermostats. Free weatherization materials
will be offered.
“These are simple tasks that almost anyone
can do, and they will make your bills more
manageable and keep out the cold air,” said
Kitchen. “People who come to this workshop
will leave with plenty of effective
cost-cutting advice.”
Philadelphia Gas Works will be on hand to
check your gas usage pattern and offer
suggestions on how to cut back on using the
utility. PGW requests that you bring your
gas bill or account number with you.
Attendees can also find out if they qualify
for discounted oil programs from the event
co-sponsor the Energy Coordinating Agency
and from PIRG Fuel Buyers.
The Energy Coordinating Agency is dedicated
to ensuring that low- and moderate-income
people have access to safe, affordable and
