PHILADELPHIA, January 5: Pennsylvania will honor exceptional businesswomen who are making remarkable contributions in their field, according to State Sen. Shirley Kitchen.

The senator encourages her constituents to nominate a worthy candidate for the 12th annual Best 50 Women in Business awards.

“There are numerous women here in our area who are true leaders in their career and are making our state a great place to live and work,” Kitchen said. “I encourage people to consider nominating a professional businesswoman who deserves such recognition.”

Candidates must be a female resident of Pennsylvania or be employed in the state and must be an owner, partner, president, chief executive officer or board chair in a senior executive management level, or a woman with significant authority for decision-making in a business or company.

Candidates may not represent a nonprofit organization or be an elected official, a member of the judicial branch or a political appointee.

A panel of judges will select the top 50 candidates based on dedication to business growth, professional and personal accomplishments, community involvement and advocacy for women in business. The award is presented by the state Department of Community and Economic Development in cooperation with five Pennsylvania business journals.

Nominations must be sent in by 5 p.m. on Feb. 8. Call 1-800-280-3801 for nomination procedures. The awards will be presented on May 21 at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg.
