HARRISBURG, January 17: State Sen. Shirley Kitchen has once again been named the Democratic chairwoman of the Senate Urban Affairs and Housing Committee.

The committee reviews legislation that relates to affordable housing, landlord-tenant relations, real estate agents, home contractors and urban redevelopment.

The senator was first named to chair the committee in 1997.

“I’m honored to be appointed to this position again, which gives me an opportunity to review legislation that has a direct effect on Pennsylvania housing,” Kitchen said. “I will continue to fight for fair housing for my district and all Pennsylvanians.”

Kitchen’s other committee assignments include Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Policy, Public Health and Welfare and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness.

“These committees all deal with unique issues, yet they are all vital to the diverse framework that makes up our state,” Kitchen said. “These committees review certain bills before they move onto the Senate floor for a vote. I look forward to working with the senators and deciding the best legislation for all of Pennsylvania.”
