KITCHEN TO HOST ‘REHABILITATION BEHIND BARS’ UPDATE MEETING

WHAT:     ‘Rehabilitation Behind Bars’ series discussion on what the statewide community can do to ease ex-offenders’ transition in the working world.

WHEN:     Monday, Aug. 20, 2007

WHERE:   Kiva Auditorium, located on the first floor in Ritter Annex on Temple University’s main campus, 1301 Cecil B. Moore Ave. (one block down from Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue)

DETAILS: This meeting will focus on changing background checks for ex-offenders. It will further discuss the senator’s pending background checks legislation, also called the ‘Second Chance’ bill, which would change the way background checks affect the hiring and job placement of non-violent ex-offenders. This meeting is intended to share ideas and suggestions that professionals—who work closely with ex-offenders—have about this legislation. Speakers include state Sen. Shirley M. Kitchen, Third District; Sharon Dietrich, managing attorney, Community Legal Services; and Ann Schwartzman, director of policy, Pennsylvania Prison Society.
