PHILADELPHIA,
November 20 -
The city of Philadelphia and a
Philadelphia-based agency recently received
funding toward fostering environmental
improvements, according to state Sen.
Shirley M. Kitchen.
Philadelphia County received a $120,000
grant, which will be used to reimburse up to
80 percent of the costs to revise the
county’s solid waste management plan. The
grant was distributed by the Pennsylvania
Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP)
County Planning Grant Program.
The Medical Mission Sisters, which works
worldwide among the poor and oppressed,
received a $22,227 grant to purchase and
install a 5.1 kW solar photovoltaic system
to provide clean, reliable solar
electricity. This funding was distributed by
the DEP’s Pennsylvania Energy Harvest
program.
“As Pennsylvania becomes a more
environmentally aware state, it’s imperative
that we foster projects and programs that
will provide us all with cleaner
alternatives,” Kitchen said. “I’m pleased
that Philadelphia is taking a role in
becoming cleaner and greener.” |
