HARRISBURG, April 28 -
State Sen. Shirley M. Kitchen,
Deliverance Evangelistic Church and
state Representative Jewell Williams will
host the 2008 Health Fair on Saturday, May
3, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the corner
of 21st Street and Lehigh Avenue
in Philadelphia. This event is free and open
to the public.
“Mind, body, and spirit are all connected,”
said Kitchen (D-Philadelphia). “To become
truly healthy, we must address each aspect.
At the 2008 Health Fair, we will come
together to educate ourselves and energize
our spirits.”
“As the Pastor of Deliverance Evangelistic
Church, I believe that the Lord requires us
to nurture both the physical and spiritual
man,” said Rev. Glen Spaulding. “In this
year’s health fair, we are focusing on
educating the community on the topic of
diseases that plague urban areas, with the
hope of bringing about prevention and
appropriate intervention. We expect that it
will allow the community to gain knowledge
and receive access to services that will
enable them to have a better quality of
life. We invite everyone to support and be a
part of this special event.”
The health fair will feature free screenings
for blood pressure, glucose, HbA1c, and
more. In addition, there will be gospel
choirs, mime performers, activities for
children, free food, and prizes. Children’s
activities include Philadelphia Zoo on
Wheels “Around the World,” which features
animals from different continents.
Workshops at the Fair include: The History
of Hypertension in African Americans,
Dealing with Chronic Pain, Living with
Arthritis, Heart Disease and more.
Keystone Mercy Health Plan, Bravo Health,
AstraZeneca, CCS Medical and Time To Promote
are sponsoring the event.
