KITCHEN TO HOST 4th ANNUAL SENIOR HEALTHY LIVING EXPO IN PHILLY

            PHILADELPHIA, May 8 - State Senator Shirley Kitchen is hosting two free local events for senior citizens this month. 

·         The 4th Annual Senior Healthy Living Expo, an event for Philadelphia seniors who want to learn more about their health care and living options, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 15 at the Yorkhouse, 5325 Old York Road, Philadelphia. 

·         A Senior Crime Prevention Seminar, with information on crime prevention topics ranging from avoiding scams to protecting oneself, will be held May 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital, 16th Street and Girard Avenue in Philadelphia 

          "Part of the community I represent in the state Senate, North Central Philadelphia, has the largest population of Medicare participants in the city," said Kitchen (D-Philadelphia). "That's why I want to host this event. I hope that everyone will feel empowered and energized after the event so that we can all learn how to lead healthier, happier, and richer lives." 

          Kitchen said seniors can learn more about medical prescription drug coverage, home health care, senior medical health plans, PACE/PACENET, health screenings, preventive health care, safety and victim services, senior citizen housing, exercise lessons, massage therapy and more. 

          Some of the scheduled participants for the May 15 event include officials from the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office; Unclaimed Property Bureau; Lupus Foundation; Department of Revenue; APPRISE, the state Department of Aging's Health Insurance Counseling program; Albert Einstein Medical Center; Arthritis Foundation; Associated Services for the Blind; Social Security; Philadelphia Corporation for Aging; Fox Chase Cancer Center; North Central Victim Services; the York House, an exclusive apartment community for older Philadelphians; and more. 

         All participants will receive a free lunch, refreshments, giveaways, door prizes and vital healthy living information. There is no registration required for this event. For more information, please call Senator Kitchen's district office at 215-227-6161. 

The free May 23 event, co-hosted by state Committeewoman Eva Lighty and Chairperson Louise Bundy, will feature speakers from the Philadelphia Police Department, Attorney General’s Office and Attorney George Gossett Jr. 

            They will discuss identity theft, protecting oneself, avoiding scams, preventing fraud and more. A free lunch will be served.
