PHILADELPHIA, May 27
–
State Sen. Shirley M. Kitchen and
Da-Network Housing will host the 3rd
Annual Homebuyer’s and Homeowner’s Expo, a
free informational workshop for prospective
homebuyers and current homeowners on
Saturday, June 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at
the Grover Washington, Jr. Middle School,
located at 201 East Olney Avenue (B and
Olney Ave.)
“Homeownership has great economic
advantages, and many people are eager to
reap its benefits,” said Kitchen
(D-Philadelphia). “This event will provide
people with the information they need to
avoid the many hazards that snare new
homebuyers. In addition, the event will help
new homebuyers to steer clear of dishonest
people who wish to take advantage of
unsuspecting families."
“Seniors and families that already own homes
will also learn about their options.”
Danette James, the founder and executive
director of Da-Network Housing, cited
estimates by the
People’s Emergency Center that almost
4,000 families in Philadelphia are homeless.
In addition, the
U.S. Census Bureau has found that
Philadelphia has a high percentage (38
percent) of low-income homeowners.
“Our communities need help,” said James.
“The statistics do not lie, and we need to
do all we can. The Homebuyer’s and
Homeowner’s Expo will provide education and
information about available housing
programs.
“Da-Network Housing hopes to educate,
empower, and promote self-sufficiency. State
Senator Shirley M. Kitchen strongly believes
in all three, and that is why, as the
executive director of the organization, I
chose to partner with the senator.”
The expo will feature free workshops on the
following topics:
-
How to Navigate through this mortgage
crisis
-
How to qualify to buy a PHA Home
-
First-time homebuyers program
-
Take charge of your credit
-

-
Home improvement and more.
Free childcare, youth activities, lunch,
