PHILADELPHIA, October 17
— State Sen. Shirley Kitchen today announced
that she has partnered with the Pennsylvania
Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO)
to offer the Standards for Excellence
program to nonprofit organizations in
Philadelphia.
“Philadelphia is home to so many charitable
organizations that truly make a difference,
but as our economy worsens, these
organizations need to focus on achieving
their goals in an efficient manner,” Kitchen
said. “The Standards for Excellence program
is an important opportunity to help
nonprofits improve on their operations, so I
encourage organizations to sign up today.”
An introductory session will take place
on Thursday, Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to
noon at The Learning Center/Temple
University Health System Corporate Offices,
2450 W. Hunting Park Ave. It’s FREE
to all organizations in the 3rd
Senatorial District. Nonprofits located
outside the senator’s district are invited
to attend at a nominal fee.
“Despite the fact that most Americans
benefit from a nonprofit organization in
some way or another, that doesn’t buffer the
negative sentiment in the public’s conscious
when there is an abundance of improprieties
we read about in the press,” notes Patricia
Mogan, PANO’s Standards of Excellence
Officer. “Charities can improve public
trust as well as the confidence from donors
and constituents by revamping their current
management practices, policies and
procedures to build a stronger
organizational infrastructure. The Standards
for Excellence Program accomplishes this
through promoting best practices in eight
key areas of nonprofit management.”
The Standards for
Excellence is an ethics and
accountability program that teaches
nonprofit organizations how to increase
their effectiveness and accountability. The
program provides education, training and
management resources that nonprofits can use
to be proactive in all areas of operations,
including program services, governing,
finance, fundraising, public policy and
more.
PANO is a membership organization serving
and advancing the charitable nonprofit
sector through leadership, advocacy,
education and services to improve the
quality of life in Pennsylvania.
