PHILADELPHIA, October 28
–
A new Web site is now available to answer
questions about the benefits of the
Pennsylvania Autism Insurance Act, according
to state Sen. Shirley Kitchen.
“This new law is a major step toward
ensuring that children living with autism
receive the health coverage that they need
and deserve,” Kitchen said. “The Web site
provides families, autism service providers
and insurance companies with specific
information about the new coverage
requirements.”
The new Pennsylvania Autism Insurance Act
requires large group private health
insurance policies to cover the treatment of
autism spectrum disorders. Children under 21
years of age will be eligible for $36,000 in
autism services.
It also requires the Pennsylvania Department
of Public Welfare (DPW) to cover the cost of
services for individuals who are enrolled in
the Medical Assistance program and do not
have private insurance coverage, or for
individuals whose costs exceed $36,000 in a
year.
The new law goes into effect on July 1,
2009.
