PHILADELPHIA, December 5: Hundreds of local families had a joyful Thanksgiving following state Sen. Shirley Kitchen’s recent annual Thanksgiving food distribution.

Kitchen and her staff gave out more than 750 turkeys and fixings on Nov. 21 to individuals and families who otherwise would not have enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner.

“Thanksgiving is a time to gather with loved ones and have a good meal, as well as spiritual nourishment,” Kitchen said. “This food distribution was our chance to give thanks for our blessings and give back to those who truly need it, and I’m happy that we could help make Thanksgiving a little nicer for so many people.” Out of respect for their dignity, the Philadelphia Senator does not allow photos to be taken of constituents receiving turkeys or other donations.

Although the Senator gave out fewer turkeys this year compared to last year due to fewer donations and tough economic times, she was grateful that several donors contributed to this year’s distribution, most notably Marvin Harrison, the Indianapolis Colts wide receiver. Harrison was born and raised in an area that is now part of the senator’s district. Harrison made the donation through his mother Linda, who is part of the NFL Mothers Association.
