PHILADELPHIA, June 2
— State Sen. Shirley Kitchen is teaming up
with Fox Chase Cancer Center to offer women
free mammograms.
Women ages 40 and older may sign up for this
free event, which will take place from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13 at
Deliverance Evangelistic Church, located at
2001 W. Lehigh Ave. by appointment only. No
insurance is necessary but a doctor’s note
is required.
One in eight women will develop breast
cancer in their lifetime, according to the
American Cancer Society. It is the No. 1
cause of cancer death in Hispanic women and
the second most common cause of cancer death
in Caucasian and African American women,
according to the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention.
“Breast cancer knows no age, race or
ethnicity. We are all at risk,” Kitchen
said. “Early detection is crucial for
treating breast cancer, and a mammogram is a
simple screening that can save your life. I
encourage all women ages 40 and older to
take advantage of this important
opportunity, and I thank Fox Chase Cancer
Center for recognizing the need to make
mammograms available to women through this
screening event.”
Space is limited and mammograms will only be
given by appointment. To make an
appointment, call Debra Resnick at Fox Chase
Cancer Center at 215-214-1682.
