KITCHEN INVITES COMMUNITY TO UPCOMING
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SEMINAR
PHILADELPHIA,
August 17
—
State Sen. Shirley Kitchen, along with the
George E. Thorne Development Center and
Sobriety Through Outpatient, Inc., invite
the public to attend an upcoming Criminal
Justice Seminar.
The free event will take place on Saturday,
Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.at Deliverance
Evangelistic Church, 2001 W. Lehigh Ave.
“Just because someone has been charged with
or punished for committing a crime, doesn’t
mean life is over. Everyone should know
their rights and options under the law,”
Kitchen said. “This seminar will provide a
wealth of information on the criminal
justice system and also provide solid
information on how ex-offenders can get back
on their feet. I encourage anyone who wants
to learn more about our justice system to
attend this helpful event.”
Representatives from Philadelphia Police
Department, Philadelphia Judicial System,
Public Defender’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco and Firearms, Philadelphia Prison
System, Board of Probation and Parole and
more will give attendees a roadmap of the
criminal justice system.
They will discuss various topics, including,
“I was Arrested: What Happens Now?”
“Sentencing: Navigating the Prison System,”
“The Next Step: Life After Incarceration,”
“Clearing Your Record: Getting Your Record
Expunged,” and more. There will also be free
refreshments, demonstrations and exhibitors.
“Recidivism is a huge reason why our prisons
are overcrowded,” Kitchen said.
“Ex-offenders need to be informed about
their options so they can get back on the
right path, into a job and housing and, most
importantly, out of trouble. This seminar
will certainly give people the information
they need to reach those goals.”
