PHILADELPHIA,
February 8
—
As individuals and families prepare to file
their 2009 taxes, state Sen. Shirley Kitchen
and the Financial Freedom Network invite the
public to three upcoming free Tax Planning
Seminars.
The seminars will take place on Tuesday,
Feb. 16, from 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturday,
Feb. 20, from10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at
Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 2001 W.
Lehigh Ave.; and Thursday, Feb. 25, from 5
to 9 p.m., at Beloved St. John Evangelistic
Church, 4541 N. Broad St. (Broad and
Belfield).
“There are tax deductions, as well as
federal programs, that many individuals are
unaware of when they file their income
taxes,” Kitchen said. “I encourage residents
to attend this seminar to learn more about
filing their taxes and taking advantage of
all the opportunities that will help them
maximize their income tax return.”
Thane C. Martin, a certified public
accountant, will teach participants
strategies to reduce their tax burden; what
it means to be audited by the IRS; what
deductions they qualify for; how filing for
bankruptcy affects their taxes; and more.
Additionally, participants who qualify can
make an appointment to have an IRS trained
preparer file their taxes and the federal
Earned Income Tax Credit.
“This workshop is also open to individuals
and families who already filed their 2009
income taxes but who want to learn how they
can save more money when they file their
taxes next year,” Kitchen said. “It’s a
worthwhile seminar that everyone can
participate in.”
For more information and to make an
appointment to file your taxes, constituents
may call the senator’s district office at
215-227-6161.
