HARRISBURG, December 22 Governor Rendell signed Senate Bill 1070 into law today, designating a portion of Route 611 in Monroe County as the Trooper Joshua D. Miller Memorial Highway.

Miller, 34, was fatally wounded June 7 while attempting to apprehend a kidnapping suspect. There was an exchange of gunfire once troopers were able to pull the suspect over along 611 in Coolbaugh Township, killing Miller and seriously wounding his partner. The suspect was also killed. His 9-year-old son was recovered unharmed.

The legislation was sponsored by Senators Robert Mellow and Raphael Musto, who attended the signing.

“I knew Trooper Miller for a long time.” said Musto. “He had a heart of gold and an unwavering commitment to service. His sacrifice won’t be forgotten.”

“Trooper Miller’s commitment and courage brought a 9-year-old boy to safety and likely kept countless others out of harm’s way,” said Mellow. “Naming a portion of 611 in his honor will always remind Pennsylvanians and passers-by of Trooper Miller’s sacrifice and life of service.”

The governor was joined by Miller’s family members, including his wife, Angela Miller. Trooper Robert Lombardo, Miller’s partner who was seriously injured, was also at the signing.

Trooper Joshua Miller is survived by three daughters.
