Senate Bill 1070, sponsored by Mellow and signed by Governor Rendell in December made the designation to honor Trooper Miller who was killed in the line of duty on June 7, 2009 while attempting to apprehend a kidnapping suspect. The suspect opened fire, fatally shooting Miller and injuring Trooper Robert Lombardo. Police were able to rescue the nine-year-old child unharmed.

Trooper Miller was a six-year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police and had received several commendations for his work protecting the citizens of the Commonwealth.

             Media is encouraged to attend.
