HARRISBURG, October 28 -
State Sen. Ray Musto
(D-Luzerne/Carbon/Monroe) today
congratulated several area school districts
that were awarded dual enrollment program
grants.
“I am so proud that so many school districts
in this area have been awarded these
valuable grants,” Musto said. “These grants
will help many high school students be well
prepared for college before graduating from
high school.”
The dual enrollment grants will help nearly
20,000 high school students statewide earn
college credit in core academic courses,
such as math, science, and English, at 77
post secondary institutions, including 13
community colleges and 11 State System of
Higher Education universities.
The following school districts were awarded
dual enrollment grants:
-
Hazleton Area School District -- $19,641
-
Jim Thorpe Area School District --
$11,434
-
Pittston Area School District -- $54,016
-
Weatherly Area School District --$7,980
-
Wilkes-Barre Area School District --
$22,746
-
Wyoming Area School District -- $8,889
-
Wyoming Valley West School District --
$16,780
Governor Ed Rendell announced the dual
enrollment program grants earlier this
week. A total of $5 million in grants was
awarded to 228 school districts.
“These grants will be put to good use by our
students,” Musto said. “They will serve as
a catalyst for academic excellence as the
students move on to college.” |
