STACK ENCOURAGES PARTICIPATION IN THE 2010 CENSUS

PHILADELPHIA, January 6 — As the nation embarks on the 2010 U.S. Census, state Sen. Mike Stack encourages residents to participate in this important program.

The U.S. Census Bureau sends out forms every 10 years to every residence. The questionnaire from the Census will be sent out in March. The Census determines the number of seats that every state occupies in the U.S. House of Representatives, as well as the distribution of more than $400 billion annually in federal funding to local programs and services.

“Northeast Philadelphia is home to numerous schools, hospitals, senior centers and other important programs and services that deserve federal funding, including a hard-working police presence,” Stack said. “By filling out the Census and returning it in a timely manner, we can ensure that all of these services and more receive funds, and that we have full representation in Congress.”

The 2010 Census is shorter and easier than questionnaires from past years. The information is completely confidential and used only for statistical purposes.

“I encourage everyone who receives the Census to take just a few minutes and fill it out accurately,” Stack said. “It’s a simple, yet important civic responsibility that will ultimately benefit our community.”
