Sen. Stack discusses Presidential Idol artwork with 1st grade winner Edward Kahn, of Resurrection of Our Lord Elementary School in Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA, February 16 — State Sen. Mike Stack yesterday honored 14 local students for their award-winning speeches and posters depicting their favorite president during a breakfast ceremony.

The students were selected from hundreds of entries in the second annual “State Sen. Mike Stack’s Presidential Idol Arts Contest.”

“This is a fun and creative way for students to celebrate a holiday that honors our nation’s leaders,” Stack said. “These talented youngsters have each demonstrated what they’ve learned in the classroom in a unique way. I’m so impressed with their enthusiasm in this contest.”

The winners and their families were treated to breakfast and received a certificate of achievement and a $100 savings bond. The event also included a Presentation of the Colors from the Veteran Guard, Third Regiment Infantry N.G.P. and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Col. Siegfried Honig, commander of the Veteran Guard and president of the Philadelphia Flag Day Association.

“State Sen. Mike Stack’s Presidential Idol Arts Contest” was open to all students in grades K-12 in the 5th Senatorial District and co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Flag Day Association. Students in grades K-8 submitted posters depicting their “Presidential Idol,” a theme based on the popular TV singing competition “American Idol.” High school students gave a 2-minute presentation on the presidency at a contest last month.
