MAN’

HARRISBURG,
January 28
–
State Sen. J. Barry Stout today announced
that his bill designating a bridge in his
district as the “Stan Musial Bridge” was
unanimously approved by the Senate
Transportation Committee.
The bill now goes to the full
Senate for a vote.
Under the Stout bill, Senate Bill 1115, the
bridge carrying State Route 1077 over the
Monongahela River in Washington and
Westmoreland counties would be named after
baseball legend and Donora native Stan
Musial.
“Not only is Stan Musial a hall of fame
baseball player, he is also a hall of fame
person,” Stout said. “I believe it would be
a great show of respect to Donora’s native
son to name this bridge after Stan the Man.”
Musial was born in Donora where he
frequently played baseball in both informal
and organized settings, eventually playing
on the baseball team at Donora High School.
He played 22 years for the St. Louis
Cardinals where he racked up 3,630 hits and
475 home runs. Musial ended his career with
7 batting titles, three World Series rings,
and three MVP awards. Upon
retirement, Musial held 17 major league, 29
National League and 9 All-Star game records.
Musial was elected to the National Baseball
Hall of Fame in 1969 and named to the Major
League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999.
