SLOTS PAY OFF FOR PA HOMEOWNERS

Pennsylvania's new casinos have outperformed expectations and, with fewer than half of the authorized facilities in operation, have produced $660 million to be used for local tax cuts.

Tax breaks will vary by school district, but across the state property taxes will be cut by an average of 10 percent.  Senate Democrats provided the critical votes needed to pass the legislation that authorized slot machine gambling in Pennsylvania.  Seven casinos are now in operation, while five more are expected to open next year.  Three licenses have not yet been awarded.

The tax cuts will go to homeowner's who live in their homes, and who have filed a Homestead Exclusion Form with their county assessment office.      Many counties have the forms available on line.  You can print out a form using the link below.

Additional tax relief for seniors is available through a separate fund called the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program.  That money will be available this year. For more information on that program, and to download the application on line,  click here.

To apply for a Homestead Exclusion, fill out the form and mail it to your County Assessment Office
